we look at the difference between

stationary and stationery, principal

and principle. Stationary is an adjective.

It means not moving or changing.

She accidentally reversed

into a stationary truck.

Stationery is a noun and it refers to

things you need for writing like pens,

pencils, paper and envelopes.

We’ve run out of stationery.

We need to get new supplies. So

how do you remember the difference?

Just think of an envelope. That’s a piece

of stationery, which starts with an e.

Now let’s look at principal and principle.

A principal is usually a head of a school.

I really like our new school principal.

Another meaning of principal can be the

amount of money invested in a financial

product minus the interest.

I invested in a scheme that

guaranteed the principal.

You can also use principal

as an adjective. Here,

principal can mean main or primary.

The company’s principal source

of income is their major client.

Principle can also mean a set of

rules which explain how things work.
